Group Work
Tentatively speaking, more than likely, my Capstone project will involve web development. More than likely using PHP and MySQL.

Capstone Ideas:
Hello Everyone,
At this point in my studies, I am not sure of the area of focus in which my Capstone project will be defined. My plan of study has been a bit unusual in comparison to the
vast majority of New Media students. A very sizable amount of my classes
are core Computer Science discipline. More than likely I will be
seeking employment in fields occupied by traditional Computer Science
majors. I am, however, very open to employment in any field to which my
skill set may apply.
I am still delving into my personal strengths and weaknesses and I
have been trying to seek advice from professors and lecturers from both
disciplines; Computer Science and New Media. I have a myriad of interests and I am
hoping those that have observed me during my academic journey at
IUPUI may help me arrive at a particular area of focus.
A few areas of which I am currently interested are, Gaming, Security, Web
Programming, Software Engineering or possibly Architecture, and Database
work. Like many New Media majors, I have a healthy appreciation for
works of science fiction and I have always been an avid comic book
reader. Like many of us, in the past I have attempted to write and
illustrate my own. I have considered the possibility of
classmates in need of CS related work to complete their Capstones. I
would definitely be open to working in tandem with
others. More than likely my future employer will require me to work with others in a team setting. The experience could prove beneficial.
What is a Capstone?
I envision a
Capstone as the masterwork of an apprentice. It is the culmination of
time, work, and effort in one's chosen academic field. I believe it is
meant to be the pinnacle of academic achievement in a student's
undergraduate studies in The School of New Media. It is also a benchmark for future employment; a small glimpse of future potential.
I also believe Capstones are an opportunity for the School of New Media staff
and faculty to disect and evaluate the quality of work the school
curriculum is providing students. Each project creates the opportunity for a discerning look at the makeup of the student body. These projects can provide valuable insight into the various factors that influenced exceptional student work. Capstones can help answer questions such as, which class plans, extra-curricular activities, backgrounds, and environments seem to exhibit a common thread amongst higher
levels of creativity in projects and outstanding works in general. This
data can then be applied to future course plans, classes, and general
school environment and timelines. Capstones can also be valuable
marketing tools, attracting prospective students considering the School of New
Media.
